Well this should be interesting. Tom Dasovich, who played under Ken Novak. Jr. at Hopkins, is now in close proximity to his former coach. That should ratchet up the Minnetonka-Hopkins rivalry a notch or three.
Here's the press release:
Tom Dasovich of Henry Sibley High School is returning to Minnetonka High School as a social studies teacher and head basketball coach.
Dasovich has been named the Skipper’s new head coach, replacing John Hedstrom who resigned earlier this year.
This will not be Dasovich’s first time working in the Minnetonka School District. He served as a teacher in the District during the 2001-02 school year and also as an assistant basketball coach, leading the
tenth grade team that season. Moving back to Minnetonka is truly coming home. Dasovich was raised in the West Metro and lives in Minnetonka. Leah, his wife, also teaches at MHS.
"One of the things that excites me most about Minnetonka is their commitment to being a world class school district. I believe I can be a key player in that mission both in the classroom and on the basketball court," said Dasovich. “I am very excited to rejoin the Minnetonka family.”
At Henry Sibley, Dasovich served as a Social Studies teacher, responsible for economics, government, and geography. He was a member of the school technology committee, facilities renovation committee and staff development committee.
Dasovich brings with him eight years of head coaching experience—six of those years at Henry Sibley—where he is the all-time wins leader in total victories and winning percentage. He led Henry Sibley to three conference championships and a record of 142-35. In addition, Henry Sibley made three trips to the state tournament, finishing second in 2008 and third in 2010.
“I was most impressed by Tom’s commitment to developing student athletes, to developing the student as much as the athlete,” shared MHS Principal Dave Adney. “His previous experience in Minnetonka and his knowledge and respect for the Minnetonka program make me very confident that he can continue to carrying on the strong tradition of Minnetonka basketball.”
Dasovich met with MHS student athletes on Friday morning, May 21 before school. “I let them know how excited I am to be joining the Minnetonka family. This is a great group of young men.” Dasovich will begin work at the high school this summer, running youth basketball camps and clinics, which are held annually at Minnetonka High School.
Dasovich holds a bachelors degree in education from Saint Cloud State University and is pursuing his masters in sports management from the University of Minnesota.
